The game has 25 fixed paylines on a standard 5×3 board, which is good for you as you do want as many paylines as possible, to make more money when you finally land that full board win. There are no coins in this game, as the paylines are fixed and Betsoft decided to simplify the process. In fact there are only eight bet levels available as bets range from €0.25 to only €5 per spin. This game is meant to be played in longer playing sessions.

Wolf Run is a 5-reel, 40-payline slot game developed by IGT. This game is centered around wolves. Going by today's standards, the graphics appear to be a little bit dated, but the gameplay is what will get you.

  1. Wolf Rising is one game that never slipped under the radar when presented to players on the casino floor, as it drew many admiring glances due to the way in which the reels are set up. We’ll cover that in more.

Main game and paytable

This is a classic high variance game so it’s expected to see high wins in the paytable, as we already know that the frequency of wins will be low. Even the card symbols – six of them – will be able to pay at least 4x your total bet, though this will happen only when you land five-of-a-kind. But you’ll get at least a portion of your stake back for three-of-a-kind, which is nice. The game also has several symbols that pay already for two-of-a-kind, which helps ease the tension as you wait for that bigger win.

The three medium-value symbols are exactly that, better versions of the card symbols. Buffalo, Cougar and Eagle pay 10x, 10x and 16x for five-of-a-kind respectively. And then it gets much better with high-value as the two Wolf symbols pay 300x your bet for five-of-a-kind while five Wilds pay whopping 10,000x your bet. In addition to this, each Wolf Moon symbol on your board instantly pays 1x your bet.

This is still very much a high variance game, but these small things like the 1x prize from Wolf Moon help you feel as if the experience isn’t as tight as it would have been without these tiny bits of help.

Bonus features

Mystical Feather is the Scatter, and it pays 5x, 20x and 100x for three, four or five Scatters respectively. You need at least three, and you’ll be given 12 free spins where 25 paylines pay both ways so you actually get 50. This is a great way to take advantage of that generous paytable, and you can expect lots of cash in the free spins game. Not only that the paylines pay both ways, but all wins are doubled! Five-of-a-kind win pays one way only, of course, but the win is doubled.

Wolf Moon Rising Slots RTP

Theoretical return to player (RTP) is 96.00%, which is actually plenty for a classic slot game that has high variance and 25 paylines, so all classic slot fans would be advised to play Wolf Moon Rising. There’s no RTP lost on meaningless bonus features so what you see is what you get – the good paytable and a free spins game that lets you take full advantage of it. This is the perfect scenario for a classic slot game and Wolf Moon Rising doesn’t steer away from it one bit.

Conclusion

Wolf Moon Rising should be played by any player who wants a game that keeps all its riches in the free spins feature. That’s precisely what this game does, and it’s what classic slot players expect. The free spins feature is very powerful and when you trigger it you’ll feel as if you won the game. Do find a Betsoft casino and play Wolf Moon Rising for real money because this game can pay huge prizes.

This is another unique slot from IGT that you can find in land-based casinos and their online counterparts. The twist with this one is that the 5 reels each have 8 rows. There are 100 winning lines, and many of the symbols (the wolves in particular) are 2 to 3 symbols deep. Add to this totem pole (native Indian) type symbols which are 5, 6 or even more symbols deep – and you can see there are a lot of winning possibilities with this game.

Extra-long reels mean that the layout is different to regular slots. You’ll find the reels to the left of your screen, with the controls and options on the right. Graphics are beautifully produced, putting older wolf-based titles (for example Wild Wolf) to shame. There are several colours of wolf on the reels. The soundtrack is also a step up from the earlier games. You get a drum based track, and the distant howl of wolves to add some atmosphere. This music becomes more intense and lively during the bonus round, when the graphics switch to night-time.

There is nothing particularly new in the bonus round; this involves 5 free spins, which you can retrigger. Wolf Rising is all about the game-play from the expanded reels, ‘fancy extras’ not being a big part of this game.

100 win-lines is the default for this game, which covers a lot of the 8 rows of symbols on the 5 reels. You can select the lines you want to play, with 1 being the lowest. Why anyone would choose to play on an 8 row slot with 1 line is a mystery to me. With the full 100 lines (which take full advantage of the stacked wild totem poles) you can spin for a minimum of $1. Like all IGT slots the maximum spin amount is high enough not to matter to most of us, $1000+. You can use auto spin on this game.

Totem poles are the top symbol (surprisingly considering the game is themed on wolves). These are wild, substituting for anything bar the bonus symbols. You will get 1000 coins for 5 on a win-line, with 250 coins for 4. There are 4 different wolf symbols in play (each takes up multiple reels). The black and the white wolves are worth 500 coins for 5, while the tan and grey wolves 250. The remaining winning symbols are the playing cards, which are ace down to nine.

The remaining symbol is the bonus, which has a lizard on it. This appears on the centre reels only. 3 of these initiate the free spins bonus, and also pay you 2x your total bet amount for that spin.

When you trigger the 5 free spins you are sent to a new set of reels. The symbols are the same, only the backdrop is night – with dark backgrounds and a different coloured totem pole. Other than the fact that you can retrigger, there is nothing different about this bonus round than the main game. The wins are the same and I did not notice any increase in the number of wolves or stacked wilds.

When this bonus is completed you’ll simply move back to the main reels, hopefully in time to see the ‘big win’ message for your total.

This slot from International Game Technology (IGT) looks amazing, the 8 rows over 5 reels catches your eye, and the triple and double height wolves make the game-play more interesting too. With stacked wild totem poles, and the 100 winning lines in play – you can end up with multiple big wins from the standard play. The sound effects add nicely to the atmosphere without ever feeling intrusive.

In contrast, the free spins round was a little disappointing. This is just 5 spins if you do not get a retrigger, and other than the ‘night’ background there is not much to make it interesting. I get that many people prefer a solid playable slot to a fancy interactive one, however for me this game went little too far in the ‘standard’ direction.

The wolf theme has always been a big hit for IGT with Wild Wolf, Coyote Moon and Wolf Run among the games released by the company dedicated to our lupine friends. I’d recommend you check it out, if nothing else to see the really well put together 8 reel setup.
